Last weekend I did something a little crazy... DKV decided to have the German championships in marathon canoeing on the same weekend as the South-German championships in Canoe-slalom, and I decided to do both.
Was lucky to have my Marathon race on the Saturday and my Slalom runs on the Sunday. Marathon was held in Rheine, quite far north, and Slalom in Fürth, quite far south. The weekend started with a little training then watching Benji from my Cornish club (Fowey River) race awesomely well representing GB!
My own race was spent paddling behind everybody else, which I was kind of OK with as I hadn't been able to train for it - didn't come last either because somebody didn't finish.

Got off the water at 5:15 and managed to catch the train at 5:40 thanks to the help of Alina, Karina and Klaus who I’d travelled to Rheine with with 10 minutes to spare. Thanks so much! Got to Fürth just before midnight and had my slalom races in the morning. They also went okish for no training and were great fun, especially the team run which also got us a third place (out of 4). Leading up to it, I thought a lot about cancelling one or the other, but I 'm really glad I did both now. Awesome paddling weekend!
